4. Damien DESSANE - Organic Fish Farming Consultant
Born in 1978. Graduated from Wageningen University Department of Ecological Production Systems. He has been working since 2004 for organic production with extensive experience in the certification process of cocoa in Madagascar, with the new EU legislation 834/07 on organic products while working for the IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) in Brussels, and organic agriculture development projects in Turkey since 2007. He has participated in several feasibility studies, publications and seminars on the development of organic agriculture in Turkey. For Gökova ICMM project, he studied closely the new EU regulation (EC) 710/09, which entered into force on 1st July 2010 in EU member states, on organic aquaculture, and has developed bonds of cooperation between French organic aquaculturists and Turkish fish producers.

SAD-AFAG Team

1. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevdet YALÇINER - Steering Committee Co-Leader (TR)
Born in 1956 in Trabzon. Graduated from METU, department of Civil Engineering in 1979, completed  his master of science degree in 1981 and he finished his doctorate study on the same department. Now, university lecturer in METU Coastal and Harbour Research Centre. He has several journals in national and international scale. He is steering committee co-leader in Gökova ICMM project.


2. Cem Orkun KIRAÇ -  Project Co-Leader (TR) 
Born in  1963. Graduated from METU department of   His studies about the documentation and photographing in field research are composed of Mediterranean monk seal, its habitat and coastal & marine culture. Has been working as an engineer in Turkish Maritime Administartion since December 1997. Certificated diver. Has several publications in national and international journals on the conservation and research, raising public awareness on the protection of coasts and Mediterranean monk seals, sea birds and coastal / marine ecosystems. Project co-leader in Gökova ICMM project.
 

3. Nesimi Ozan VERYERİ - Project Manager 

Born on 16th January in 1973 in İzmir. Graduated from METU, Department of Industrial Design. He completed his post graduate study about Mediterranean monk seals and conserving of coast lines in 2002 in Ege University Department of Environment Sciences. He has been still working for us as Karaburun Representative. Certificated skin diver. He has many publications in national and international scale about Mediterranean monk seal, research, protection and raising public awareness. Project Manager in Gökova ICMM project.

 

4. Dr. Harun GÜÇLÜSOY - Project  Field Studies Co-Coord.  
Born on 6th May in 1972 in İzmir. Graduated from METU Biology Department in 1994. In the same Department, he completed his after graduate degree with the thesis of Conservation of Mediterranean Monk seal in Foça in 1998. In 2006, He got his PhD with the thesis on cetaceans in DEU-DBTE. He is a marine biologist who makes studies about both on Mediterranean monk seal and dolphins. He is active in publications, organizational jobs, legislation, conservation of habitats and management planning. Certificated diver. He has many publications about research, conserving and raising public awareness about coastal habitats, Mediterranean monk seals and marine ecosystem in national and international journals. Project  Field Studies Co-Coord. in Gökova ICMM project


5. Dr. Nuray Güven VERYERİ - Project  Field Studies Co-Coord.  
Born on 1st March in 1973 in Bulgaria. Graduated from Hacettepe University Department of Biology with the nature enthusiasm bearing since her childhood. She executed a detailed research about sea otters in Türkiye and completed her postgraduate study with this subject. After that Nuray studied monk seals in Karaburun Peninsula and completed her PhD. on monk seals in Karaburun. Field studies researcher in Gökova ICMM project.

6. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat BİLECENOĞLU - Ichthyology consultant
Born in Ankara in 1974. Graduated from Ankara University from the department of Biology, completed his MS and PhD in the department of Aqua Products in Ege University. Working as Ichthyology consultant in Gökova ICMM project.

 

 
7. Assist. Prof. Dr. Vahdet ÜNAL - Fisheries Consultant
Born on 25th February in 1968. Now university lecturer in Ege University Faculty of Aqua Products. After he was graduated from  Ege University, department of Economy of Agriculturein 1989; between the years of 1996-2006 he completed his MS in Ege University Science Institute and Barcelona University Faculty of Economy and Industrial Sciences. He got his PhD in 2001 and he became Assist Prof. Dr. in 2003. He is member of Science Council of SAD. Fisheries Management Consultant in Gökova ICMM project.  


8. Kemal BATTAL - Legal Consultant (EU Acqui and National Legislation Studies)  
Born in 10th November in 1959. Graduated from Military University (Civil Engineering-coastal and offshore facilities) in 1980; Law Faculty of Ankara University in 1995.He has  extensive working experience in the maritime various fields of the maritime sector, Turkish maritime and marine environment law including technical and legal implementation and preparing of legal documents as laws, regulations and directives since 1980. Now, Maritime and marine environment consultant. Consultant of Turkish Chamber of Shipping for accession process to the EU. Academic Consultant of Turkish Maritime Board of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges. He is legal consultant in Gökova ICMM project.


9. Bahar SUSEVEN - ICMM and Regional Biodiversity 
Born in 1962 in Köln Germany. Graduated from Heidelberg University department of Archeology, Geology and Geograpy in 1991. She is expert in designing project, project analysis, evaluation and monitoring, wild life rehabilitation, Rural and local tourism and sustainable development and waterland management in SEPA.  Working as ICMM and Regional Biodiversity expert in Gökova ICMM project.


10. Zafer KIZILKAYA - Marine Tourism and Underwater Photography - Documentation
Born in 1969 in Ankara, he graduated from METU, Civil Engineering Department, completed his post-graduate study in the Coast and Port Engineering Department at METU.   In the different corners of the world, he worked as a professional underwater photographer in the projects executed scientific studies about the field of marine biology. Known to be a professional underwater photographer. He can be easily remembered by the reader’s of “ATLAS” magazine. Certificated diver. He has many publications in national and international scale about marine biodiversity, wrecks and cave diving. Marine Tourism and Underwater Photography - Documentation expert in Gökova ICMM project.


11. Yalçın SAVAŞ - ICMM and Posidonia Research
Born in 1966 in Balıkesir. Participated in preparation studies of "Conservation of National Mediterranean Monk Seal Strategy of Türkiye" and he played a great role in the establishment of "National Seal Committee".  On behalf of AFAG, he became the executant of  Conservation of Mediterranean Monk Seal in Türkiye-Foça Pilot Project - managed and supported by WWF International and he commenced on the project in 1993. Between 1995-1997, on behalf of TTKD Bodrum branch, he participated in activities aiming at raising public awareness in protection of natural assets. He got involved in several national and international projects carried out by AFAG and he studied on Mediterranean monk seal, planning and management of protection area, patrol system against illegal fishing, organizing artisanal fishermen, determining of posidonia distribution and posidonia conservation. He carried out a survey on the distribution of Posidonia beds on Turkish coasts on behalf of TÜBİTAK-MAM and developed a distribution map.  He is ICMM and Posidonia Researcher in Gökova ICMM project.

 

12. D. Haluk CAMUŞCUOĞLU - Project Consultant  (Field management - ICMM)

After becoming the member of SAD, he was charged with the membership of the board in 2002-2006.  In the 6th General Board Meeting of SAD, he was elected as board member and carried out SAD presidency for two years. At the 7th General Board Meeting, he took the position of board of audit membership within SAD.  Project consultant in Gökova ICMM project.


13. Serpil KOZLUDERE - Project Consultant (Field management - ICMM)
Born in 1965. She graduated from the Middle East Technical University (METU) Faculty of Engineering, Department of Metallurgical Engineering in 1987. She became the founder member of METU Underwater Society (ODTÜ-SAT) in 1985 and carried on coastal areas research and conservation studies within the body of ODTÜ-SAT. She viewed the sandbar sharks in Boncuk Cove in 1993. She got “Project Cycle” training from Regional Environmental Center (REC), “Coastal Area Planning” training from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She is working as project consultant in Gökova ICMM project.

14. Gökhan KABOĞLU - GIS Supervisor
Graduated from METU, department of Civil Engineering. He completed his master degree on Dokuz Eylül University, Marine Sciences and Technology Institute on GIS applications and Conservation of Mediterranean Monk Seals in Foça SEPA. He is studying on fisheries management and information systems in DBTE Marine Sources programme for his PhD. He is executing SAD's Coastal Areas Management coordinatorship and supports the projects of SAD in terms of GIS. GIS supervisor in Gökova ICMM project. 


15. Semiha DEMİRBAŞ - IT and GIS expert

Born in 1985.  Graduated from Ankara University Department of Landscape Architecture. She started to work as a GIS & IT expert  in SAD- AFAG from 2009 March within the Project of Gökova ICMM. She is still studying landscape planning and geographical information systems. She has been continuing her studies on nature conservation.

16. Eren ÖZDEN - Project Assistant
Born in 1986 in Ankara. After accomplishing the last year of his undergraduate study and diploma thesis in Environmental Sciences Department of Nova Gorica University (Slovenia-Italy) he's graduated from Environmental Engineering Department of Uludağ University. He joined in SAD-AFAG family in 2009 and currently working as project assistant in Gökova ICMM Project.


17. Ece SARAOĞLU - Project Assistant
Born in 1984 in Ankara. Graduated from the Middle East Technical University (METU) Department of Environmental Engineering. Voluntarily participated in nature conservation efforts at WWF-Turkey Ankara Office in the last years of her undergraduate education. Currently doing her graduate studies on shallow lakes ecology at METU Department of Biological Sciences and attending field studies in the projects carried out by METU Limnology Laboratory. Project assistant in Gökova ICMM project since August 2010.

18. Ayhan TONGUÇ - Logistic Support
Born on 26th June 1948 in Kars. While he was studying at Faculty of Pharmacy, he was interested in theatre at amateur level.  Due to his very close interest in sea, he did angling and maritime fishing for ages. He  gives logistics support in Gökova ICMM project.
